NYC's Top Italian Restaurants

There is no shortage of spectacular Italian restaurants in New York City. To pinpoint my favorite would be nearly impossible. Below I’ve highlighted the restaurants I enjoy dining at over and over and over again. Each never fails to disappoint.

Maialino

Located within one of my favorite NYC hotels (Gramercy Park Hotel) lies this Roman-inspired restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group.  Prepare to want to order every single pasta on the menu. The Cacio E Pepe is to die for. I would also recommend stumbling in one day for breakfast/brunch and ordering the Cacio E Pepe eggs (they are the best).

Scalinatella

An old-school New York City restaurant staple which attracts celebrities and locals alike. Situated in a garden level basement. Everything about Scalinatella is perfect: the service, the menu, the food and the wine. Upon sitting at your table, you are embraced with complimentary fresh Parmesan cheese, baked zucchini and sautéed clams. I recommend ordering multiple pasta dishes and splitting with the table. This is a good restaurant to visit with your family. The vibes are cozy, yet classic NYC.

Il Mulino Prime

Our favorite date spot. The dark setting makes this the perfect location for a quality Italian meal with romantic vibes. This modern steakhouse and Italian restaurant features inspired cuisine and choice cuts by Executive Chef Michele Mazza. Located in the heart of SoHo, Il Mulino Prime embraces the signature style and unparalleled service attributed to the success of Il Mulino New York. Top dishes include: Chicken Parmesan, Linguine Clams in White Wine Sauce, Dover Sole and Cesear Salad.

Carbone

Lively celebrity hot spot situated in a retro-glam space. Here I spotted the Obamas! Come for the food, enjoy the scene. My top dishes include: Spicy Rigatoni Vodka, table side Cesear and the Dover Piccata.

Il Cantinori

Upscale romantic restaurant with top notch service. Dover Sole is a must.

Vics

Upscale and lively Italian restaurant situated in NOHO serving up modern day Italian cuisine and incredible vibes. Must order the Ricotta Purses and Cacio E Pepe .

Frank Restaurant

Low-key and rustic East Village staple which serves incredible Italian food paired with hip-hop music. The outdoor seating makes a summer night truly unforgettable. Must order the Asparagus Parmigana and Orecchiette with Broccoli Rabe/Sausage/Garlic.

I Sodi

Under the radar top Italian restaurant located in the West Village. Limited seating availability. Book through Resy— aka compulsively check for reservation openings. Must order: Lasagne, Cacio E Pepe and Fried Artichokes.

LAVO

Looking for a side of partying served with your chicken parm? LAVO is your spot. Order the Fried Oreos, Meatball, Chicken Parm and Pizza. And perhaps a few bottles of champagne as well…
